How to Create Domain Aliases

Adding Domain Aliases (IIS Host Headers) Through the Control Panel
Domain aliases allow multiple domain names to utilize the same content.  With the use of a CMS, domain alias can allow you to have multiple web sites run on the same installation of the CMS while displaying domain specific content. To add a domain alias, please follow these instructions:

Plesk Obsidian and Onyx:

  1. Login to your Plesk control panel
  2. From Websites & Domains select the Add Domain Alias button
  3. Enter the alias name you wish to use
  4. Configure the settings as needed
    1. Synchronize DNS zone will use the same DNS template for the alias as the parent domain
    2. Mail service will enable mail to be sent to the alias's address
    3. Web service will allow the alias to be reachable as a website
    4. Redirect will redirect all traffic from the alias to the parent domain
  5. Click OK to save your changes

Plesk 12.x:

  1. Login to your Plesk control panel
  2. From Subscriptions click on the name of the domain you want to add an alias to
  3. Select the Add Domain Alias button
  4. Enter the alias name you wish to use
  5. Configure the settings as needed
    1. Synchronize DNS zone will use the same DNS template for the alias as the parent domain
    2. Mail service will enable mail to be sent to the alias's address
    3. Web service will allow the alias to be reachable as a website
    4. Redirect will redirect all traffic from the alias to the parent domain
  6. Click OK to save your changes
If you are using our name servers, the new DNS settings should take effect within 30 - 60 minutes. If you are using other name servers, contact your registrar to update your DNS records.
