Differences Between Google Analytics and AWStats
The two most common statistics programs that are used in our hosting environment are AWStats and Google Analytics.
AWStats
AWStats tracks site activity by analyzing the IIS log file which is a file for your site from the web server. AWStats are enabled through the Control Panel, see How to Enable Webstats and View Statistics, and reads and compiles data from the IIS log for your site.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics tracks site activity through URLs that people enter to access your site and subsequent links that are clicked once a visitor is on your site. Google Analytics gathers data via a javascript file that loads on your website. This javascript code can be added as a module, extension or as code directly in the template or index file depending on what web application you use.
