Upon Logging into Plesk on Windows 2008 Server You Get an Error: "Get_Config_String Failed: PRODUCT_DATA_D:.."
Issue
When trying to log into Plesk on a Windows 2008 Server you may get the following error message:
get_config_string failed: PRODUCT_DATA_D: Unexpected end of data when read C-string from serializer.
Possible Causes
There is a known bug in older versions of the Plesk Control Panel. Parellels was aware of the issue and fixed it in later versions of the Plesk Control Panel.
Resolution (This must be done by a Support Technician or if you are a Dedicated Server client)
Plesk 9x
- Use Remote Desktop to log into the server by going to Start > Run > mstsc.exe.
- Right click on the Task Bar and select Task Manager.
- Select the Processes tab and find Apache.exe and Plesksrv.exe, choose End Process Tree for each one.
- Click Start > All Programs > Parallels > Plesk > Plesk Services Monitor.
- Check the boxes next to the following items: Plesk Control Panel Services, Plesk Management Services and Task Scheduler.
- Press the Restart button. Once finished Plesk will be back online and functioning. In some rare cases this may not work and may require an actual server reboot.
