Permissions Error When Trying to Install an Application as an Administrator

Issue
When logged onto your dedicated server as an administrator, you receive the following error when trying to install or run certain applications:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Possible Causes
This issue is caused by a security feature in Windows.  Windows Server 2003/2008 detects that the file you are trying to run has come from another computer and will not allow the program to execute until you approve it as a valid program.

Resolution
Approve the file.
  1. Right-click on the file and select Properties.
  2. Locate the security section that says This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect your computer.
  3. Click the Unblock button.
  4. Click OK to close the dialog.
  5. You will now be able to run your application.
