How to Restore a DotNetNuke Website Using Control Suite (For Dedicated Server & VPS Customers)

The Control Suite can be used to create website backups before doing complex tasks such as website upgrades. These backups are stored in C:\Backups\YourDomain\TimeStamp\httpdocs folder and a database .bak file backup file. Here's how you can restore one of these or other backups to your website.

Restoring a Site with the Control Suite Backup
  1. Use Remote Desktop to log into your dedicated server.
  2. Double click on the Control Suite icon on your desktop. If the shortcut is not available, browse to c:\netstrap\SystemControl and run NetStrap.exe via Windows Explorer.
  3. Click Login.
  4. In the Navigation Tree:
    1. Expand Plesk x.x.x (Domains).
    2. Expand the domain you will be restoring.
    3. Click on the DNN install or No App Installed.
  5. In the Commands Ribbon, Click on Migrate DotNetNuke.
Restore DNN using the Migrate DNN button
  6. In the Main Window, click into the Database_Source field and click the [...] button.
  7. Click the [...] button in the SQL .BAK Backup section.
    Choose Database Backup
  8. Navigate to the .bak file for the domain you are restoring and click Open.
  9. In the Main Window, click into the File_Source field and click the [...] button.
  10. Navigate to the httpdocs folder for the domain you are restoring and click OK.
    Browse for Folder
  11. Expand Database
  12. Change DatabaseName and DatabaseUser from <AUTO> to a new value.
  13. In the Main Window click Execute.
    Migrate DNN fully filled out
Control Suite will complete the restoration of your site and will load the site when the restoration is complete.
