How to Shrink Your MS SQL Database Log File / Truncate Transaction Log

This article requires the use of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. If you do not have this installed, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express is available for free from Microsoft and can be downloaded through these links:

Always back up the website before making any changes to the database . Refer to Back Up Your Website Using PleskDedicated server customers can back up the site either through the Control Panel or through the Control Suite. Refer to How to Back Up a Domain Using Control SuiteShared hosting customers can shrink their database through Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express running on their local machines. 
  1. Log into Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
  2. Right click on your database.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Click on Options.
  5. Change the recovery model to Simple.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Right click on the database.
  8. Select Tasks > Shrink > Database.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Right click on the database.
  11. Select Properties.
  12. Click on Options.
  13. Change the recovery model to Full.
  14. Click OK.
