Common Upgrade Issues in Joomla 2.5

  • You received database errors upgrading to Joomla 2.5.
  • The admin menu is distorted.
  • After upgrading to Joomla 2.5 you can no longer click or load links on your site. 
  • Since upgrading to Joomla 2.5 you can no longer save any articles with HTML code.

Possible Causes
  • Joomla was unable to access some tables during the upgrade.
  • The browser is still caching portions of the site.
  • JavaScript is unable to run due to an incompatible template. 
  • The text filtering options have been moved from the article manager to the global filters and need to be reconfigured.
  • Repair the database
    1. Login to the backend of your Joomla site.
    2. Go to the Extensions Menu and click on the Database tab.
    3. Click Fix.

    4. Your database should now be upgraded to 2.5.

  • Clear your browser's cache.
    Your browser is still storing a cached version of your site.
  • Contact developer of template for an updated version of template.
    JavaScript needs to be able to run in order for your site to function normally such as clicking on links. Many issues encountered after upgrading Joomla are a result of not upgrading third party extensions such as components and templates.
  • The text filtering options need to be reconfigured.
    1. Go to the back end of your site > Global Configuration > Text Filters
    2. Change the setting for Super Users from Default Black List to your previous setting such as No Filtering or White List.
