Adding An Event in SmarterMail to Monitor Mail Spool Activity
As a proactive measure all of our shared hosting servers have events that notify our support engineers of high outbound mail volume. Our dedicated server customers can set up an event to be notified of possible spam in the mail queue by following the instructions below.
Please note, the Events feature is only available in SmarterMail 7.X and above.
SmarterMail 9.X/10.X
- Log into the SmarterMail server using one of the methods below.
- Open a browser and type the IP address of the server with :9998 appended to the end and use admin and the server's password to log in.
- Using the @Managed.com Control Suite, right click on the SmarterMail server to Log in as Admin.
- In the navigation pane, click New > Event.
- Give your new event a name.
- In the Event Category drop-down select System .
- In the Event Type drop down, select Spool Count.
- Check the Spool Count box and configure your options using the drop-down and text box to the right based on average email traffic.
- Click the Actions tab and then the Add Action button.
- In the Action drop down, select Send Email.
- Use the Maximum Frequency drop-down to select how often you want to be emailed about your Email Spool if it is over your specified count.
- Enter the email address you would like the notifications to come from in the From Address field. (This email address does not need to exist on the server.)
- Enter the email address you would like your notifications send to in the To Address field.
- Use the Subject and Body fields to configure the format of your notification email.
- Click the Save button.
SmarterMail 7.X/8.X
- Log into the SmarerMail server using one of the methods below.

- Click on the Events icon in the Navigation Pane.
- Click on All Events and then New.
- Give your new event a name.
- Select System in the Event Category drop-down.
- Select Spool Count in the Event Type drop-down.
- Check the Spool Count box and configure your options using the drop-down and text box to the right based on average email traffic.
- Click the Actions tab and then the Add Action button.
- Select Send Email in the Action drop-down.
- Use the Maximum Frequency drop-down to select how often you want to be emailed about your Email Spool if it is over your specified count.
- Enter the email address you would like the notifications to come from in the From Address field. (This email address does not need to exist on the server.)
- Enter the email address you would like your notifications send to in the To Address field.

- Click the Save button.
