How To Connect to Your MSSQL Database

You will need to have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio installed to complete these steps. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express is available for free from Microsoft and can be downloaded through this link:
  1. Once downloaded, open MSSQL Management Studio.
  2. Connect to the Server with the server name and login credentials
    1. It is recommended that you use the IP address of your domain instead of the domain name, as using the domain name could be affected by DNS.
    2. Your login credentials are located within your web.config in the connection-string area as uid: and pwd:
  3. On the left navigation bar click on Databases.

Additional Information
All MS SQL Servers on our network run on the standard MS SQL Server port of 1433.  Sometimes, when trying to connect to your database, you may receive an error like this:

------------------------------ SQL server does not allow remote connections. ------------------------------

If you receive an error stating that SQL server doesn't allow remote connections, your ISP (CenturyLink, Comcast, Cox, RoadRunner, Verizon, etc) is blocking you from connecting to SQL server.  In order to resolve that problem, you will need to contact the company providing you with internet access and have them unblock port 1433.

If you are receiving this error while trying to connect to MS SQL on a dedicated server you may also change the port used by MS SQL by following the instructions in the article located at How To Configure MS SQL Server on your Dedicated Server for an Alternate Port
